Product Description

13 tracks, 30 minutes. Solo album from the Mule and Reelfoot band leader. In full P.W. Long style this is a total headrush of a record. You get some great stories, a little insight and some damn fine blues rock. 180gm black vinyl in a gatefold sleeve and including a lyric insert.

And so we celebrate the return of the semi-lost, infamous and note-worthy P.W. Long, with the release of his fourth solo album, and the first release of Black Diamond. We say semi-lost, because we always knew where he was, or at least what US State he had been spotted in recently. We managed to keep track because (despite the man's attempts at a legitimate lifestyle of higher education and gainful employment), we just couldn't let it lie. P.W., through his work in Mule, Reelfoot, and his last solo album Remembered, had lit in us a fiery thirst for his talent. And so our persistance has been rewarded with not only this, his first solo work in four years, but we also have the pleasure of releasing his work with Young James Long. But that's another story..... God Bless The Drunkard's Dog was initially released on vinyl only, lovingly presented in a gatefold sleeve on heavy black vinyl, and with a special insert giving deep insight into the lyrics of the artist.

P.W. Long writes songs from the darkest recess of the soul, where desire and fear mingle with lone-liness and desperation, and optimism is always tempered with a dose of harsh reality and a few shots of hard liquor. His songs ache with experience, an experience hard won from his life time of making music.

God Bless The Drunkard's Dog is the long awaited follow-up to 2003's Remembered. Again employing the powerhouse drums of one Taylor Young (formerly of Young Heart Attack) the duo slug it out in what is definitely his most rounded and complete album to date, all the vintage swagger of Mule at their most cocksure along with the more fragile poignancy of P.W.'s solo songs. The songs here sound urgent, every lyric grabbed by the throat and wrung out over the rattling rhythm. It's a totally celebratory listen, a headrush, a lover's polemic, a masterpiece. You get a handful of great stories, some secrets, a little insight and some damn fine playing from a guy who knows what he's talking about. What more do you want?

God Bless... contains a lyric sheet which P.W. had translated into many languages before back into English, resulting in an interesting, funny and more often than not deeply emotive new slant on each song's meaning. A few of the misheard, mistranslated lyrics finally made their way onto the album proper, adding credence to the adage that there's nothing more beautiful than the accidental. A fitting precept for God Bless The Drunkard's Dog. Our storyteller simultaneously elicts sympathy and invokes anger --- such is his urgency, that one cannot fail to share his plight.
